Barred Owl Goes Viral Before Being Released: Patient 26-68

Our social media followers get a real kick out of some patients more than others. Patient 26-68 was one of those critters we posted that people just really loved. Patient 26-68 is a Barred Owl who was brought in for care after he was found sitting right in the middle of the road, and was making no attempt at escape. Luckily, the finders were able to quickly scoop him up and bring him in for care.

Immediately upon our initial exam, this Barred Owl, nicknamed “Owlly” by his finders, was very vocal about his opinions. Our ears were hurting as Owlly screamed his heart out, alerting any other animals nearby that there were predators in the area (us).

We set Owlly up for cage rest in preparation for cage rest. For some time, Owlly would not stand up on his own so we knew something was wrong. Owlly had to be confined to a cage for some time. After a little while, patient 26-68 was finally standing and a little more extensive care was finally able to be given.

After about a month of being on cage rest, Owlly was finally able to be moved into one of our aviaries, which gave him plenty of room to fly around and perch properly. from then on, Owlly only needed proper nutrition, and plenty of exercise until he was finally able to be released! Our viral sensation owl was here, viral, and gone in just about a month and a half!
