Eastern Gray Squirrels Burned From Fire: 22-145 and 22-146
These Eastern Gray Squirrel sisters were found April 3, 2022, limping near a park. Upon admission, it was clear they were limping because of burns on their feet. Their fur was completely singed, they had burns on their faces and they were in respiratory distress. We don’t know how they were burned.
With medication to control pain and infections, daily wound care and all of the normal care young squirrels need, our team spent many hours with these squirrels. Unfortunately, one sister was much worse than the other and sadly passed away several days after admission despite our team’s best efforts.
The other young squirrel was paired with other squirrels in care once she was old enough, and her wounds started healing. She continued to be a picture-perfect patient and friend to her new siblings. It took quite awhile for her fur to grow back in, but the young squirrel was finally released into the wild in Spring 2022.
