Virginia Opossums Stuck in AC Vent: Patients 19-140 & 19-160

On May 30, we received a call from Matt regarding a small opossum he found in his AC duct work. We admitted the little one and quickly began the work of cleaning him and assessing him for injuries. He was underweight and dehydrated but was overall in good spirits.

Only an hour after Matt dropped off the opossum, he reported that he found another one. Unfortunately, this youngster was deep in the duct work and wouldn’t come out. It would be five more days until Matt rescued the sibling.

For both opossums, the story has a happy ending. They were able to grow up together and were released after about a month of intensive care.

A Dedicated and Caring Citizen

Not everyone would tear apart their AC system for a couple of opossums, but we sure are glad that Matt did! We have the great joy of coming in contact with so many caring individuals in our work — those who go above and beyond to find a professional who can help them, making sure the animal they found receive the best help.
